LEAD PROGRAMMER AND ASSISTANT GAME DESIGNER
Emanuel cut his game programming teeth on the ViaMetropol Project, the goal of which was to create a massively multiplayer online game. The project was based on free will and democracy, but was unfortunately short-lived. At the time ViaMetropol was discontinued, some of the team were still interested in creating a game together. The result would be Emanuel agreeing to program a game that Lars Nielsen had spent several years designing - a game known as Call of the Warlords.
Emanuel joined the project for several reasons, one of them being that he had played the boardgame (and won!). He noticed however that the game took a long time to play, and that most of the time was spent performing complex calculations, and keeping track of the many detailed features and statistics Lars had built into the game. These calculation and recording routines, Emanuel knew, were the job of a computer, not the players, and he knew just how to make it work.
